The First Great Awakening is a period in the 1730's and 1740's that was characterized by religious revival in the American colonies, especially New England. Sermons in this time period became marked by emotion, which lead to numerous conversions. George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards are two preachers who are particularly known for this introducing this technique.
