Jan Hus was a Bohemian fellow who was a Czech priest and attempted reformer- a Wycliffe follower, one of those sort.
Fifteenth century.
He tried to bring down the man- disagreed with Church on many things- Eucharist, ecclesiology, et-cet-er-a.
He worked at Charles University in Prague. It's a Czech place. He also preached, and disagreed with the church's practice of only administering the chalice to the sexually chaste. In 1412 he was excommunicated by his archbishop, on account of not voting for the right person for pope. He also disagreed with the selling of indulgences, which he found "ungroovy."
He was tried at the Council of Constance. He was found guilty of heresy by Big Brother, after refusing to acknowledge that the pope was divinely appointed. He was burned, as was good Catholic custom, in July 1415.
After his death, the Hussites became a major faction and annihilated quite a few Catholic armies, as they were made of tougher stuff than the papist pig-dogs. In 1436 the Bohemian church was allowed to administer the chalice to everyone. Luther took most of his really killer lines from Hus, and thus Jan could rest easily knowing he laid the groundwork for the Reformation.
